What is Skullavera?
Skullavera is a handmade design piece which comes from our passion for skulls, pirate legends and ancient Mexican traditions of decorative skulls.
Every Skullavera is unique and made just for you, it’s numbered and signed.
We have designed Skullavera studying on anatomical tables of human and monkey skulls. After countless tests, we ended up with this look. We hope you will find it cute and exciting as much as we do.
Skullavera is entirely handmade in our workshop in Verona, Italy using just water and gypsum. There are no chemicals or additives. Skullavera is a solid block of molded gypsum. We stain the naturally aged variant with coffee and tea in order to give it a 300 years old look. Our black variant is made using a special mixture of gypsum and iron oxide which is non toxic, just as every other Skullavera.
If you believe in superstitions, Skullavera is not just a plain gypsum skull, it’s much more than that. Pirates used to collect monkey skulls to give them powers and create legends. Skullavera comes from these legends and carries their powers! The red paper stripe around the box has 9 symbols, those draws are not only ornamental, they’re a clear message for you. Did you tear close to a particular symbol? Find what that symbol means in the parchment booklet inside and discover the power of your Lucky Skullavera!
Skullavera, especially the plain white one, is intended to be decorated. Almost every technique is well suited: use pencils, felt tip pens, markers, crayons, tempera, acrylics, watercolors, Indian ink and much more! Don’t be afraid to experiment! Did you made a mistake? No problem! Use some white paint to start over, the one you would use at home for your walls will do the job just fine.
